Wig Studio

A core and unique service for Scruffs, we offer free private consultations for men, women and children seeking hair replacement solutions following chemotherapy or permanent hair loss conditions. Garry has many years of experience in recognising different types of alopecia and can advise on causes of hair loss or thinning hair. Garry is not medically trained and will always advise clients to discuss hair loss problems with their doctor first.

Garry is experienced in the fitting and styling of quality wigs for all ages.  He brings many years of specialist knowledge about wigs, and an understanding of what you are facing.

What to expect

Scruffs has offered Hair Replacement services since the 1970’s.  It is a part of our business we feel incredibly strongly about.

An hour appointment will be required for the initial consultation; we advise you bring a family member or friend to support you.  You will be given time and space to try on and select a wig that is as natural as possible, and you feel great in.

We work closely with the ‘Little Princess Trust’ and the ‘Teenage Cancer Trust’ enabling young people to wear wigs at a difficult time of their lives.  Our experience is that children feel incredibly empowered and happier once fitted with a wig they love. It gives them a new confidence.

Call Garry for a free personal consultation (by appointment only).  No question will be unanswered; no worry too small.  He will spend time with you looking for the best solution for your lifestyle.

Your questions answered

  • When will my hair fall out after chemotherapy? +

About a fortnight after starting treatment; but remember that your hair is going on holiday and it will return.

  • Which wig would be best – synthetic or human? +

Synthetic wigs are great for a temporary hair loss such as from chemotherapy as they are pre-styled and only need washing once a month.  When your energy levels are low they are easy to care for.  Human hair wigs are very natural looking and can be styled as usual i.e. cut, curled, blow dried etc.  But they take a little more looking after.

  • Is a lace front wig the best option? +

Yes as they are hand tied to a sheer lace base.  They sit very close to your scalp and the hair can be lifted off the front very naturally.  This works for both synthetic and human wigs and give the illusion of a seamless hairline.

  • When will my hair start growing back? +

In our experience after about 10 months after chemotherapy customers are sporting a full but short head of hair.  We offer a free appointment to check hair growth and to advise on that first trim.

The time I spent with you was a lot of fun.  It was the first time I had laughed and smiled for what felt like forever… I think you deserve a medal for the things you do… I couldn’t wish for a nicer wig….. Thank you for your time and for your kindness. Never change, you are perfect as you are.

Yesterday I went to The Sanctuary in Covent Garden and exposed it to all sorts of otherwise risky activities – steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and even the swimming pool.

    Lesley, Essex

  • Thank you so much for looking after us on Monday and making what could have been a very distressing experience so much easier.

    Fiona, Cambridge

Silently I was very apprehensive as to how I would react to the whole affair but you made it very easy.

    Sue, Lincolnshire

I feel brighter and lighter and less aware of wearing something on my head.

     Charlie, Cambridgeshire

  • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like a million dollars. I’ve had wonderful comments all day. You are definitely a ‘hair angel’.

    Mrs Frankes, Suffolk

I have had many comments on my wig and when I went to see the doc ..he told my husband that he thought I looked fantastic. If you can give someone like me that ‘feel good factor’ then you can give it anyone!
